Halifax Based Property Management Company Receive Fine for Asbestos Exposure

Posted by Lighthouse in

A Halifax based property management firm has been fined £30,100 after workers were exposed to asbestos.

Employees were replacing a roof at a factory building in Halifax when they were exposed to the deadly fibres. It occurred while up to 15 workers were stripping materials from support beams which were found to contain asbestos, Halifax Magistrates’ Court heard.

A local business raised the alarm after suspecting that the materials contained asbestos. Work was halted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after inspectors visited the site.

The firm had not conducted an asbestos survey, nor hhttp://www.lighthouseriskservices.com/blog/wp-admin/post-new.phpad they undertaken a risk assessment, according to the HSE investigation. The probe also found that staff had not been trained on how to remove asbestos and the firm did not have a licence to remove it.

Furthermore it was found that the firm had exposed workers to the asbestos and had not tried to reduce how far it spread.

The Company pleaded guilty to seven charges under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 and of breaching Section 3(1) of the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974. The company was also ordered to pay £2,475.40 in costs.
