Surveys & Assessments

Health & Safety legislation requires enterprises in the UK to do more than simply have a written Health & Safety policy or risk assessments.

There will often be the requirement for additional actions to be taken in order to identify relevant control measures for a risk assessment, or to show that measures have been taken to reduce exposure levels to certain harmful substances.

Lighthouse Health and Safety consultants have the necessary competence to conduct a number of specific surveys and assessments to help your business be compliant with the legislation that is relevant to you.

Dust Surveys, Air Monitoring and Face Fit Testing

The basis of many of these survey requirements is the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH).

COSHH does not necessarily have to be a liquid, it could be dust generated by a process, or a vapour or particle that becomes airborne.

To that end, it is important to undertake air monitoring and dust surveys if your operations involve process that may emit dust, vapors or fumes.

Legionella Risk Assessments

Similarly, COSHH 2002 covers the requirements for organisations to control potential outbreaks of Legionella within their premises.

Legionella control measures can vary dependent on the type of building, its occupancy, and water heating and storage systems and so the first port of call should always be to undertake a Legionella Risk Assessment.

This will assess the hazards and document the relevant control measures for the building to have compliant water systems.

Noise Surveys

Noise at work has a specific regulation which was introduced in 2005. It details that orgnaisations cannot expose people to pre-set decibel levels over the course of a working week, or exceed a certain level in any given working day.

Noise levels are monitored during a noise survey, with both personal dosimetry equipment and static meters being utilised to determine the exposure levels.

Control measures should then be introduced to reduce exposures if they are found to be exceeding the legal limits.

At Lighthouse, our team of competent Health and Safety consultants is on hand to deliver these  surveys and assessments to your business, helping you to understand your legal obligations and how to implement control measures to reduce your risks.

Do You Need A Compartmentation Survey?

It’s common for fire risk assessments to identify where buildings have defects which would allow fire and smoke to spread, and which would reduce the time to escape for occupants.
