Health & Safety Consultants

Health & Safety for Sub-Contract Trades

At Lighthouse, our Health and Safety consultants are skilled in supporting traditional sub-contract trades to put in place documentation, training and necessary accreditations to satisfy their compliance obligations, and the demands of their Principals.

Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS)

All sub-contract trades to commercial projects will be familiar with submitting RAMS, detailing the hazard exposures, control measures and working methods they are to adopt when undertaking site based works.

These documents are often quality controlled by the Principal Contractor and, when scrutinised, can be called in to question.

Our Health and Safety consultants can help you to prepare your RAMS for whatever works you may be undertaking on site, ensuring that they are fit for purpose and thorough enough to satisfy your clients.

The documents produced will be bespoke to your operations, with our client base spanning a number of trades including; plumbers, joiners, electricians, landscapers, scaffolders, decorators, plasterers, specialist cleaning companies, sign installers, partition installers and many more.

SSIP Accreditations

It will often be the case that, in order to qualify as an approved contractor for a Principal, you may be asked to apply for an SSIP accreditation.

Common accreditations include:

  • CHAS
  • SafeContractor
  • SMAS
  • Altius
  • Achilles

At Lighthouse, our competent Health and Safety consultants can guide you through the application process and ensure that you obtain the desired accreditation.

This will involve ensuring that the requisite Health & Safety documentation is in place and available to be evidenced to the accrediting body.

Common requirements include:

  • An up to date Health & Safety policy
  • Evidence of RAMS submitted for a recent project
  • Evidence of communication of RAMS and Toolbox Talks with site operatives
  • Training records, including evidence of CSCS cards and CITB qualifications
  • Evidence of external validation of site processes – usually via independent site safety audit inspections

Your consultant will proactively work with you year on year to ensure that these items are all in order and managed accordingly, helping with a smooth application or renewal for your SSIP accreditation.

Health & Safety Training

Having evidence of relevant, up to date training is vital for both site access and defence of any insurance claims which may be made against you.
