First Aid

At Lighthouse, our competent trainers and consultants can conduct First Aid Training for your employees either on site, or in one of our training facilities throughout the UK.

Our courses are accredited and certified and are registered with the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).

We offer both the single day Emergency First Aid at Work qualification, which also doubles as a refresher course of full first aiders, along with the three day First Aid at Work qualification.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) – Duration – 1 Day

Course content Who should attend?
EFAW covers the course content specified in the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.It gives delegates the skills and confidence to respond to a range of accidents and first aid emergencies they could encounter in the workplace.

As of 01/01/2017 all EFAW courses will include training for delegates in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

This course gives delegates the skills to help someone who is:

  • unresponsive and not breathing
  • unresponsive and breathing
  • bleeding
  • having a seizure
  • choking
  • burnt

It also includes information on:

  • dealing with an emergency
  • assessing a casualty
  • monitoring a casualty
  • where to get help
  • electrical incidents
  • accident recording and reporting
  • control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH)
Nominated workplace first aiders, or anyone wanting a comprehensive introduction to first aid.This course is also suitable to act as a refresher for those who have previously undertaken a First Aid at Work training course and are due to renew their 3 year certificate.

The course is suitable for all businesses, particularly those with large numbers of personnel which work in any environment from low to high risk, ensuring shift work/out of hours have provisions at all times.

Please note if a business has more than one location each site must be assessed per category of risk and per number of personnel.

First Aid at Work (FAW) – Duration – 3 Days

Course content Who should attend?
FAW covers the course content specified in the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.It gives learners the skills and confidence to respond to a range of accidents and first aid emergencies they could encounter in the workplace.

In addition to the topics covered on an emergency first aid at work course, this course covers treatment for a variety of injuries and medical conditions.

As of 01/01/2017 all FAW courses will include training for delegates in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

It gives learners the first aid skills to help someone who:

  • is unresponsive and breathing
  • is unresponsive and not breathing
  • is choking
  • is feeling faint
  • has been poisoned
  • has a head injury
  • has hypothermia or heat exhaustion
  • is having a medical emergency
  • seizure
  • heart attack
  • angina attack
  • stroke
  • asthma attack
  • severe allergic reaction
  • diabetic emergency
  • has an injury to a bone muscle or joint (including spinal injuries).

The course also includes information on:

  • dealing with an emergency
  • assessing a casualty
  • monitoring a casualty
  • where to get help
  • electrical incidents
  • accident recording and reporting
  • control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH).
This course is designed for people who want to receive thorough and comprehensive first aid training and be prepared for any eventuality where a first aider is required.Suitable for all staff responsible for, or needing to increase their awareness of, First Aid at Work.

The course is suitable for all businesses, particularly those with large numbers of personnel which work in any environment from low to high risk, ensuring shift work/out of hours have provisions at all times.
